Centre Square Him: "You have to find peace within yourself first. If you look for peace within others without doing that, you'll never find it. I'm always chasing peace. When I was unemployed and dealing with different struggles, I had time for reflection back on myself. I realized I had to fix the inner part of myself and figure out where I was going before I could take the next step in my life." Centre Square "There have been a lot of defining moments. Meeting my wife thirteen years ago through a mutual friend's one of them. She came over on January 21st, 2001 and we were married on March 1st, 2008. Now we have a 17-month-old son. We've been through a lot; her mom had leukemia in 2012 and passed away after fighting for nine months. So, yeah, a lot of defining moments." Bank Street "Starting my own business was the best accident ever (laughs). I'm from Colombia, and we have the best coffee, right? But I never knew 'till I was exposed to it here in the States. I started this business with $2000 and now I have seven to ten employees. We use locally grown fruit for the smoothies and fair trade coffees. In February, we're running a trip for 40 people to Colombia to tour coffee plantations." #terracafe West Ward: Northampton and 7th, Hump Day "What's something you're struggling with?" "I got family problems. My grandma gets on me for breaking curfew. I try to argue about why I should be able to stay out, like I'm at friends' houses--she should trust me!" "Does she?" "She doesn't. She's a tough cookie." West Ward: Northampton and 5th "How does one get to be a Town Crier?" "You have to have an unquenchable desire to yell real loud in front of a lot of people! But seriously, I was appointed by the City of Easton; it's an honorary position for public events. I even won a competition that covered town criers from the US and Canada. I'm one of 400 town criers worldwide." |
