"My husband lost his job...what...five years ago and he's been trying to get another one."
Husband: "Well, I got another one, but it pays a lot less. I went from making $80,000 a year to $20,000 a year."
"So the whole minimum wage thing affects us," she said.

"Science. Neuroscience, actually. I want to do research and gain knowledge about what we know, what we are, and where we're going."

Him: "About a month."
Her: "Actually about five years, but we just 'came out.'"
"What advice do you have?"
Her: "The pathway to freedom is through the door of forgiveness." 
"Do you have anyone to forgive?"
Her (nodding slowly): "I think we all do..."

Him: "Eat at Valenca."
Her: "...and stay in school. If you don't, you have less chance of getting a good job..."
Him: "...and knowledge!"

"Being an educator has been a lifelong love. I love seeing people grow. (Laughs) When I was first starting out, I thought I'd be a camp counselor forever, but then I realized I'm not in an area where I can do that, so I started teaching."

"How did you get to live your dream of being an artist?"
"Well, the Universe is nice. I jumped off the cliff at 25 and the ground wasn't that far below me. I love it--I feel richer being poorer."

"What's an issue that both of you agree on?"
"Most definitely LGBT equality. We're the only state in the Northeast where we don't have rights. We've never been political before, but this is important."
"Okay, what do you disagree on?"
They paused and looked at each other, stumped.
"Can't think of anything..."

"Is there one of your tats that you'd be willing to tell me about? One with the most significance?"
"Well, this one's very symbolic for me: My son and I live on the river. We've been through three floods where we lost the house. We got the house back three times, so I got this one for him and me."

"What got you into the issue of fracking?"
"It's horrendous in so many ways: It affects our water and our health. Big companies are covering these things up, and people like us don't have money like they do. All we can do is hold up these stupid little signs."
