No Real Secret

Him: “We went to high school together, or even before that I guess--
Her: “—Middle school.”
Him: “Middle school. We’ve known each other for a long time. And that’s kinda it, really.”
Me: “What’s the secret to a good relationship?”
They look at each other and laugh nervously.
Her: “I don’t know…”
Him: “Ummm… Maybe if we knew, we’d… Uhhh…”
Her: Yeah, I don’t know…”
Then things got awkward and we parted ways.
